Hull University Parquet Floor Installation

The Project manager contacted us regarding this parquet floor installation project at University of Hull. Because the floor was previously flooded, we had to remove existing blocks and leave the subfloor to dry for a period of time. Once dried screed was put down. After the screed we laid a new solid oak parquet floor. When the floor was fully laid, we have sanded and oiled with red brown oil to match other parquet floors in the building. To finish the floor and give it strength we have applied 4 coats of high traffic lacquer. As always to fit in with the customers requirement this project was done during holiday time to reduce disruption.

For this repair we  removed the plywood and cleaned and flattened the gap. To cover the gap we made a new bespoke piece of oak that we put in place to match the existing floor, this was fixed in place with wood glue.

When we have been to do the survey, we have noticed the floor was full of deep scratches. We have recommended a full re-sand to remove scratches. Also, we have suggested to use a high traffic lacquer to protect the floor as much as possible. The customer agreed with our recommendation, so the work has gone ahead.
